This section will provide you with step-by-step instructions for installing BayesiaLab on your computer.
Before you can start the installation, you will need to receive an email from the Bayesia License Server with your Bayesia account information, which includes multiple credentials:
- User Name for software download
- Password for software download
These will be required to log onto the Bayesia server to download the BayesiaLab software. For security reasons, this password changes frequently. In case your password has expired, click on the link in your email to receive a new one (see red callout in the above screenshot).
- Client ID/Customer ID (Format: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX)
- Activation Password
Please note that the download and activation credentials are different.
Given that there are several different versions of BayesiaLab, you will receive a separate email with the URL corresponding to your version of the program, e.g. http://www.bayesia.com/Download/BayesiaLabxxxxx/Download.php
Upon entering this URL, you will be asked to provide your Download Credentials, i.e. User Name and Password:
Once you are logged in, you will see several BayesiaLab versions available for download.
Please note that for Windows there are 32 and 64-bit versions available. Furthermore, the Windows versions can be downloaded with or without the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6. If you have JRE already installed on your PC, you may opt for the smaller download
Upon completion of the download, simply execute the downloaded file.
In Windows environments, Administrator rights are required for the installation.
The installer program will first prompt you for the language.
Upon language selection, the BayesiaLab Setup Wizard will start:
Click next to proceed to the License Agreement.
After accepting the agreement, the next screen will prompt you to select an installation directory.
Windows users can also choose the Start Menu folder, from which BayesiaLab can be started.
The next screen confirms the selections and allows you to start the actual installation process.
Upon completion, the Wizard presents this screen.
This concludes the installation of files, however, you will still need to activate BayesiaLab. To do so, you want to proceed and launch BayesiaLab straight away, while you have all the credentials at hand.
Upon starting BayesiaLab, you will be prompted for the “New Client Identifier”, which is the same as the Client ID/Customer ID (Format: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) that you received by email (see Activation Credentials).
Upon entering the Client ID/Customer ID, you will have the choice of an automatic or manual activation process. For most users, the automatic route will be simpler, but some configurations, e.g. firewalls, may prevent this process, in which case the manual activation becomes necessary. We will illustrate both here.
Simply click OK in the activation screen and your local installation will communicate with the Bayesia License Server to validate your license. If everything is OK, BayesiaLab will start up immediately.
Is case the automatic activation is not possible, for instance when your workstation is not directly connected to the Internet for security reasons, check the box for Manual Process and click OK.
The following screen will prompt you to perform the activation via the Bayesia website, from where you can obtain the Activation Key.
Please note that you do not yet have this Activation Key anywhere and that you would not have received it by email.
Follow the link shown on the screen and your Client ID/Customer ID and Product Code will be transmitted to the Bayesia website. Before you enter anything into the fields on the Bayesia website, go to the email with your credential information. In addition to the Client Identifier and the Product Code, you will also require the Activation Password from this email. For reference, here is an example of what the initial email with all the credentials looks like.
Upon entering the Activation Password (from your email) click validate.
Upon validation, the next page will present you with the Activation Key.
Now copy and paste the Activation Key from the Bayesia website into the manual activation window, which should still be open.
Click OK and BayesiaLab will start.
Under Windows, BayesiaLab's start-up screen is black.
On Mac OS X, BayesiaLab's start-up screen is blue.
In order to reset your license, you first have to uninstall BayesiaLab from the current computer system.
- You have to have a connection to the Internet.
- You need to be logged in to your computer with Administrator rights.
- Use the BayesiaLab uninstallation program (e.g. C:\Program Files\Bayesia\unins000.exe for Windows, Applications/BayesiaLab/Uninstall.command for Mac OS X).
- Select "Remove the activation key".
BayesiaLab will send a request to our server, and reset its license. This will then allow you to install BayesiaLab a new computer.
As a security measure, you may uninstall BayesiaLab no more than twice per year.
