A Single-User/Single-Machine (SUSM) License is the simplest way for an individual user to work with BayesiaLab.
A Single-User/Single-Machine (SUSM) License is tied to one user and one physical computer.
You cannot transfer, share, or make a SUSM License available to multiple users via a virtual machine or application servers.
You cannot share a SUSM License by means of sharing hardware between multiple users, e.g., via a shared laptop.
You may transfer a SUSM License between computers, e.g., due to a hardware upgrade, if you follow the specified uninstall/reinstall protocol.
A SUSM License can run entirely offline, i.e., operating in environments without an Internet connection.
The BayesiaLab platform is the world’s leading software suite for generating, manipulating, analyzing, and deploying Bayesian networks. Beyond the core program, BayesiaLab Professional, a range of modules allows for incorporating Bayesian networks into many types of research projects.
This document guides you through all the licensing options to help you determine the ideal BayesiaLab configuration for your particular application.
The BayesiaLab software platform encompasses three types of programs: desktop software, web applications, and application program interfaces (API).
We offer a specially-priced version of BayesiaLab, for academic teaching purposes and academic research, the BayesiaLab Academic Edition.
The BayesiaLab Academic Edition is only available to academic users, i.e., students and faculty of accredited colleges and universities. Proof of current academic affiliation will be required from prospective users.
The determination of qualifying academic status is at the sole discretion of Bayesia.
The BayesiaLab Academic Edition is equivalent in its functionality to the full commercial version of BayesiaLab Professional.
The BayesiaLab Academic Edition is intended for the exclusive use for educational purposes and for conducting academic research under the following conditions:
Any commercial use of the software is prohibited.
Any research conducted with the BayesiaLab Academic Edition is not primarily intended for the benefit of a third party (e.g., as part of a research contract).
Any research results (e.g., journal articles, manuscripts, theses, book chapters, reports, and presentations) will be made available to any member of the public upon request and at no cost.
Built on the foundation of the Bayesian network formalism, BayesiaLab is a powerful desktop application with a highly sophisticated graphical user interface.
It provides scientists with a comprehensive “lab” environment for machine learning, knowledge modeling, diagnosis, analysis, simulation, and optimization.
BayesiaLab supports a range of operating systems:
Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, 11 (32-bit and 64-systems)
macOS/OS X: Mountain Lion (10.8) or later
Linux/Unix
BayesiaLab always has to be installed on your local hardware. BayesiaLab is not available as a remotely-hosted Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).
We offer a wide range of licensing options for BayesiaLab Professional to suit your specific business requirements, including License Purchase and License Rental.
Additionally, the Elastic Licensing program offers a high degree of flexibility with several prepaid plans.
Non-profit organizations and government entities may be eligible for institutional discounts on certain products. Please get in touch with us for details.
With a Floating Token License, the BayesiaLab software is installed locally on each user’s computer.
The number of purchased or rented Floating Token Licenses determines the maximum number of concurrent user sessions.
For instance, if your company rents three tokens, you can have a maximum of three concurrent user sessions.
There is no restriction regarding the number of installations, so dozens or even hundreds of users can have BayesiaLab installed locally and ready to launch whenever needed.
Users can have multiple copies of BayesiaLab installed, e.g., on their desktop, laptop, including virtual machines, and even Windows tablet computers.
Account Managers can add/delete end-users and manage their access via a web-based Account Management Panel (see Bayesia License Server — Account Management).
A Floating Token License is available in two versions:
A Worldwide Floating Token License without any geographical restrictions.
A Continental Floating Token License is licensed for use within a specific geography. UTC time zones define the available geographies:
North, Central, and South America (NCSA): UTC -12 to UTC -2
Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA): UTC -1 to UTC +3
Asia Pacific (APAC): UTC +4 to UTC +12
License Rental is a convenient way to deploy BayesiaLab for different lengths of time without committing to capital expenditure.
The all-inclusive License Rental fee covers technical support and maintenance, so one payment per license term takes care of everything for the duration of the license term.
During the license term, you are eligible for all software upgrades.

Independently of purchase or rental, BayesiaLab can be licensed per seat () or for shared use in an organization ()
For students and faculty of accredited institutions, we offer attractively priced and Education Packages of BayesiaLab.
As an alternative to a , a Floating Token License can be shared between multiple users within an organization.
BayesiaLab needs to be connected to a while users run a BayesiaLab session or before they check out (“borrow”) a license for offline use, e.g., prior to air travel.

Elastic Licensing provides several pre-paid plans that give you on-demand access to BayesiaLab Professional to anyone in your organization anywhere in the world.
It offers the ultimate flexibility in software licensing and allows you to scale up or down your BayesiaLab usage as required by projects.
With Elastic Licensing, BayesiaLab Professional software is always installed locally on the end-user's computer.
An Internet connection to the Global Bayesia License Server is required whenever users run a BayesiaLab session or when they check out a license for offline use. In this context, the use of a Local Bayesia License Server is not possible.
When running an instance of BayesiaLab, the actual time BayesiaLab runs is deducted from the prepaid usage hours.
The usage time is calculated from the moment BayesiaLab is started to the point when the program is terminated on the end user's computer.
To avoid the accidental counting of idle time against usage hours, for instance, when a computer is left unattended, you can specify an Inactivity Timeout.
Any prepaid hours you have purchased can be used by your teams anywhere in the world. So, whether you have one analyst working for 50 hours or five analysts working for ten hours each, the BayesiaLab usage would be the same.
*Unused usage hours will expire at the end of the validity period.
The BayesiaLab Education Package is specifically configured for classroom use and includes student and teacher licenses.
The BayesiaLab Education Package includes:
One Single-User/Single-Machine License for instructor use:
The BayesiaLab software is installed locally on the instructor's computer.
Floating Token Licenses for Students:
A restricted version of the BayesiaLab software is installed locally on students' computers.
Students can install the BayesiaLab software on multiple computers.
The number of licensed Floating Token Licenses determines the maximum number of concurrent student sessions. For example, to allow 30 students to work simultaneously with BayesiaLab during a class, you will need to license at least 30 Floating Token Licenses.
There is no limitation regarding the number of student users and the number of local BayesiaLab installations. As a result, the number of student users and installations can exceed the number of Floating Token Licenses.
BayesiaLab can be installed on all computers in a lab, on virtual machines, on students' laptops, on home computers, etc.
An Internet connection to the Global Bayesia License Server is required whenever a student runs a BayesiaLab session.
By default, the instructor can manage the student licenses via a web-based management console (see Bayesia License Server Account Management).
The installation files for students and the instructor are different.
The price of the BayesiaLab Education Package is a function of the number of Floating Token Licenses required for student use:
The BayesiaLab Education Package is intended for the exclusive use for educational purposes and for conducting academic research under the following conditions:
Any commercial use of the software is prohibited.
Any research conducted with the BayesiaLab Education Package is not primarily intended for the benefit of a third party (e.g., as part of a research contract).
Any research results (e.g., journal articles, manuscripts, theses, book chapters, reports, and presentations) will be made available to any member of the public upon request and at no cost.
